After so many years without it, how can I express the Many Thanks due to everybody who helped make the 2024 Village Hall Walk such a success. From making cakes, serving drinks and refreshments back at the Hall and of course Mick Steel for mobile servicing, the map reading (least said about the extra 2 miles covered at the end the better - I truly blame the adults! 😉) everything, including the weather, was spot on. However of course the real stars of the day were the 32 intrepid souls who ventured out from the hall, and we had only lost 4 adults by the time we reached Upper Wardington which didn't seem too bad a rate as all the younger members were fine (Darwin at work?) but for a real review of the walk it is best left to our young budding journalist Finley Golder.
Well done everybody.  Bob Blake
We awoke on Sunday 2nd June with the sun beaming through the windows, what a great day for a walk!
I helped Mum back a picnic full of sandwiches and tasty treats for our little adventure and we waited for our friends to arrive, they were joining us from Woodford Halse.
We arrived at the village hall at 10:50 in good time for our 11am start. There were Before we set off, Bob asked for volunteers to navigate, and my brother Radley stepped forward to take his map and compass. Marlowe also took a map and compass.
We set off from the village hall heading for Berry Close where we passed the alpaca’s and through the old railway tunnel heading across the fields towards Wardington. Radley led the walk with passion and enthusiasm using his compass and map reading Wardington, who provided refreshments and biscuits which were very well received, thank you Mick!
From Wardington, Radley led us on towards Thorpe Mandeville, where we continued to walk across the countryside and the disused railway line. We finally stopped for a well-earned rest at the Three Conies! I had an Appletizer and set with my friends Jasper & Oscar to have our picnic. It was really hot now so the rest was enjoyed by everyone!
We set off again after about 45 minutes in the direction of Thenford. We got a little lost after crossing the A361 and down a steep hill where we found some interesting fossils on the soil and took a scenic route across a boggy field before getting back on track!
We arrived back in Chacombe at around 5:15, later than we originally had planned but we all just about made it back to the village hall for the lovely cakes. Mum and Dad were particularly fond of the Victoria Sandwich.
We ended up walking almost 16km which was amazing! My legs were tired by the end of it and Radley and I slept really well that night. Everyone did really well despite the heat and it was great to see so many people, some I already knew and others I did not.
Thank you to the Village Hall Committee for organising a good doy out walking in our beautiful countryside.

The Hall is administered by a Committee of Volunteers with elected Officers such as Chair, Treasurer, Secretary etc. plus Volunteers to come up with ideas and drive!
The AGM is your opportunity to have your say, vote, and if you can, volunteer your services. While holding events such as Games and Social Evenings and the recent successful
VH Walk, the Committee has helped to get the extension with nice new toilets, an entrance hallway which is much easier to navigate with room for prams,
pushchairs etc to be left. Outside the Hall it all looks smarter with the donated flower-pots and the rebuilt wall at the bottom of the car park.
At the June meeting of the Chacombe Parish Council (PC) Colin Lester was co-opted onto the PC. Colin currently lives on Thornhill, having been resident in the Banbury area for over 35 years, the last ~26 years of those in Chacombe. In the early years of his time in Chacombe, Colin was involved in various community activities but mainly due to work commitments this involvement waned over the years. Following recent retirement, Colin now has less pressures on his time and is keen to become more engaged in village activities again. In addition to his new role as a Parish Councillor, this may also spread into other areas such as the Sports and Social and Village Hall committees and/or working parties convened for tidying up the Churchyard/Berry Close.
Colin's other interests include volunteering for the National Trust and various sporting activities.
On behalf of the whole village, we thank Colin for his renewed enthusiasm for Chacombe and welcome him onto the Parish Council.
Firstly, thank you to Georgia Connor for helping us to creep into the 21st century by setting up a Facebook page for the hall. Please give our page a like on facebook – Chacombe Village Hall. Feel free to leave any comments and suggestions as to improvements and events in the village hall. We want the hall to be used by everybody. We’ve also been doing a lot of work sorting out some repairs including the wall in the car park. The car park is now much tidier and safer. We are in the process of organising two containers to go on the village hall site. This will help both the hall and the Sports and Social Club with storage.
